Remember Akon? He's building cities in Africa now

(USA Today, 2020) Remember Akon? You know, the R&B singer that was popular in 2007? I always wondered what happened to him and where he went. Apparenlty he's been in Africa.
The singer announced on Monday that he's moving ahead with plans to create a futuristic pan-African city. The construction will begin next year on the $6 billion project despite global tourism's pause due to COVID.
Akon first announced the idea in 2018, described his vision as a "real-life Wakanda", comparing it to the technologically advanced African city portrayed in Marvel's "Black Panther."
The project would provide job for the Senegalese people, and serve as a "home back home" for Black Americans. The new city could be a hot spot for tourists, encouraging them to visit Senegal.
This isn't just a random project for Akon. He was born in the US to Senegalese parents and spent a lot of time in the West African country growing up. With only 44 percent of rural households having electricity in 2018, it's no wonder Akon is deciding to give back.
While I won't be traveling to Africa anytime soon, I hope this project sees success.
