Security Alert: COVID-19 scams seeks your personal info

(CNET June 30, 2020) The US Federal Trade Commission warned the public on Tuesday that scammers are pretending to be government officials in order to get victims' bank account information. The scammers tell victims they'll get money from the "Global Empowerment Fund".
This is all a scam, says the FTC. There's no money and no fund. If you recieve an email or phone call like this, you should not respond. Instead, you should report them to the FTC at ftc.gov/complaint. The FTC says it will never contact anyone by email, phone, text, or social media to ask for your financial or personal information.
Always recognize phishing and other scamming techniques. Become familiar with them so you can protect yourself -- you can find more information at identitytheft.gov.
