Having a voice in today's climate
Jumping Trout, LLC
(CNET, July 6, 2020) Donations and words of support for the Black community flodded in from tech companies for the past few weeks following the killing of George Floyd. The largest committment from the industry came from PayPal, which said it will invest $500 million in Black and minority businesses and give away $30 million.
PayPal CEO Dan Schulman has run the digital payments business for the past five years, and says that he will continue funding and support minorities, even amid heavy criticism and controversy.
As the climate in Rockford seems to hit an important milestone, mirroring the narrative that's happening around the nation, it's important to note what to do as a business owner to reflect solidarity with your peers, even if you don't agree with them.
While not all businesses have $500 million to donate to causes, it's important as a business and business owner to get involved in the community. Whether you sit on a board or donate financially, there are many ways to spend your time to show that you care about making Rockford a better and safe place to live for everyone.
You might not want to be as vocal as Dan Schulman, but showing support to any cause can help put your business in a prominent spot among your peers and competition. In fact, consumers are more likely to shop with you if they know you are involved with nonprofit causes.
So, reguardless of your political affiliation, we can all agree that all people deserve the same kindness when entering your establishments. Get out there, and get involved!
