HTTP vs HTTPS - What it means and why it's important
Jumping Trout, LLC
(WIRED 11/19/2019) You might not notice (or even care) when a website begins with an 'HTTP' vs an 'HTTPS', but the difference means that the website is not encrypted or protected from snoopers.
Sometimes a website will redirect you to an encrypted version, but this isn't guaranteed. DuckDuckGo, a popular search engine that doesn't track you, announced that it will automatically upgrade your website to a smarter encryption site. Meaning, the search engine will search for HTTPS sites for you.
DuckDuckGo and Pinterest are leading the pack in this smart encryption service, which wasn't easy to build.
Next time you go on a website, make sure you look to see which version you're using.
