(CNET, July 14, 2020) There are a lot of mechanical keyboards out there to choose from, and I won't even begin to pretend to know what this means, but I do know that if you're tight on space AND into gaming, you might want to invest in a mini keyboard.

Ultracompact gaming keyboards have typically been a niche market, for companies like Ducky. But now they're gaining in popularity, and with so many options in the market, the people at CNET did the shopping for you. According to them, the Razer Huntsman Mini is a good choice. You can get it for around $120 now - which seems pretty steep for a keyboard but hey, if it's a hobby! Any replacement keycap that's Cherry stem compatible will work with them, though Razer's offering it's own set too.

Razer has made some improvements to the switches, adding sound dampening silicone to the linear ones and improved lubricant on both for a smoother glide and reduced echoing. It uses a normal sized detachable USB-connector, unlike others that makes using anyone elses cable impossible. So that's good.

Narrower than a 15-inch laptop and less deep than a mouse, this keyboard fits into the category 'compact', unlike some other keyboards out there, that are larger than the 60% capacity that requires a keyboard to be labeled officially 'compact'. These models are typically geared toward esports palyers and hardcore gamers (not me! LOL) because the smaller size leaves the mouse more room to move around. It means a smaller gap between your keyboard and mousing hands. There's also a better sense of control - you can have your elbows tucked into your sides easier.

For non-gamers, this keyboard can help with posture at your workstation. You have more flexibility with your movements and can angle the keyboard wherever it's comfortable.

So whether you're a hardcore gamer or just looking for a keyboard that's comfortable, the CNET team seems to think that the Razer Huntsman Mini is the best option. Even if it sets you back $120.
